SAEDNEWS: The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, offered prayers over the body of martyr Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau.
According to SAEDNEWS, Ayatollah Khamenei led prayers at a ceremony held at the University of Tehran on Thursday morning, honoring Martyr Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau.
A funeral procession in the capital city followed, with numerous Iranian citizens, government officials, and military personnel participating.
The farewell ceremony for Ismail Haniyeh began at the University of Tehran, where mourners gathered, many holding portraits of the fallen leader. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei offered prayers over Haniyeh's coffin as well as that of one of his bodyguards.
The Supreme Leader's office had previously announced that the funeral prayer would take place at the university before mourners made their way toward Azadi Square.
Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards tragically lost their lives in an attack on their residence in Tehran early Wednesday morning. The public relations office of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the circumstances surrounding the attack are under investigation and further details will be disclosed later.
Haniyeh had traveled to Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, on Tuesday, July 30.
