US Economic Terrorism Must Be Condemned, Araghchi Tells UN

According to Saednews, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the president of the Security Council and UN member states, urging them to condemn what he called Washington’s “Operation Economic Outcast.” He described the campaign as an illegal form of “economic terrorism” targeting Iran.

Araghchi said the stated aim of the operation was to end legitimate economic relations with Iran through threats of secondary sanctions and exclusion from the US financial system.

He argued that the measures attempt to extend US laws and foreign-policy objectives beyond American jurisdiction while pressuring sovereign countries to change their lawful trade relations.

Araghchi said the Security Council and UN members now face a choice between defending sovereign equality, non-interference and the rights of independent states, or yielding to what he described as the unilateral actions and pressure of a “rogue state.”

Iran also called on Guterres to evaluate and report on the humanitarian and human rights effects of the measures, particularly their impact on food, medicine, healthcare, energy, transportation and humanitarian aid.

Araghchi added that Iran reserves the right to pursue “all available avenues” to seek accountability, compensation and legal redress for damages resulting from the US campaign.
