SAEDNEWS: Iran said talks with Oman on establishing a safe commercial shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz are in the final stage, according to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
According to Saednews, Iran and Oman have made significant progress in negotiations aimed at establishing a new navigation route through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei.
Baghaei said the two neighboring coastal nations have been engaged in discussions for the past two months, focusing on technical, legal, security, and environmental aspects of the proposed route. Relevant Iranian authorities have been reviewing the details throughout the process.
He described the talks as professional and constructive, noting that both countries have already agreed on the geographical coordinates of the proposed passage. According to Baghaei, a joint statement outlining the key agreements and shared considerations is expected to be finalized, provided there is no outside interference.
Despite the progress, Baghaei emphasized that the understanding between Iran and Oman does not guarantee complete security for ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz. He said the underlying factors affecting maritime safety in the strategic waterway have not yet been resolved.
The spokesperson attributed the security situation to military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, along with the resulting regional security developments. He also claimed that what Iran describes as a naval blockade and other actions targeting the country and its interests continue to raise security concerns.
Addressing regional diplomacy, Baghaei said there are currently no plans for Iran’s foreign minister or parliament speaker to visit Pakistan or Qatar later this week. However, he noted that both Islamabad and Doha continue their diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions, while Iran remains in close communication and consultation with both governments.
