We Are Ready, in Good Faith, to Store Iran’s Uranium Stockpiles

According to SAEDNEWS, Yerlan Zhetibayev, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, said today that his country is closely monitoring developments related to Iran’s nuclear program and supports the use of nuclear energy solely for peaceful purposes under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He said that “a number of countries, including Kazakhstan, have in good faith expressed their readiness to provide technical assistance to help resolve this issue, provided that the necessary international agreements are reached between all relevant parties and the matter enters the operational and implementation stage.”

According to Zhetibayev, Kazakhstan hosts the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank; a facility owned by the Agency that serves as a reserve source of nuclear fuel for peaceful nuclear energy programs.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan concluded by saying: “We have, in good faith, declared our commitment and readiness to provide technical assistance. I reiterate that this is contingent upon reaching the necessary agreements.”

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said on Friday that during a meeting in Astana, the capital of this Central Asian country, the country’s president stated that if the United States and Iran reach a nuclear agreement, Kazakhstan is ready to accept and store Iran’s uranium reserves.

The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, in response to a question about Grossi’s remarks, reiterated that negotiations with the United States at this stage do not concern nuclear issues. Iran has repeatedly stated that the current talks are focused on ending the war.
