According to SAEDNEWS, citing Rozato, based on a press release from the Australian-based owner company Lucapa Diamond Company, this 170-carat gemstone named “Lulo Rose” was found in the Lulo alluvial mine in the diamond-rich Lunda Norte region of Angola.

Lucapa said that the Lulo Rose diamond is believed to be the largest pink diamond discovered in the past 300 years and the fifth largest diamond ever found in the Lulo alluvial mine, where stones are extracted from riverbeds. According to the company, this is the 27th diamond over 100 carats that has been found in the mine.

Discovery of a 404-Carat Transparent Diamond

According to Lucapa, which is now searching for kimberlite pipes or underground deposits as the primary source, two of the largest diamonds ever discovered in Angola were previously found in the same mine, the largest being a 404-carat transparent diamond.

Stephen Wetherall, CEO and Managing Director of Lucapa, said in a statement on Wednesday:
“Lulo is an exceptional alluvial resource and truly a gift. We are once again very proud of another historic discovery. We are also looking forward to advancing our exploration efforts, where we are now bulk sampling priority kimberlites and searching for primary sources of exceptional and valuable kimberlite diamonds.”
