According to SAEDNEWS, citing Young Journalists Club, an Indian man named Amar Bharati decided in 1973 to dedicate his life to the Hindu god Shiva. To prove his devotion, he raised his right arm and has kept it raised ever since.
Amar Bharati, a married man with three children, worked at a small local bank until 1973. At that time, he decided to leave his modest life behind for world peace and to dedicate himself to the Hindu god Shiva. To demonstrate his commitment, he chose to keep his right arm raised in the air and has not lowered it since.
Bharati endured severe pain during the first two years, but later the pain subsided and he eventually lost all sensation in his arm. Some argue that because blood circulation in his right arm has been completely cut off, he can no longer lower it, while others claim that he could still lower it physically if he wanted to, but chooses not to for ideological reasons.
