SAEDNEWS: Falling river levels in China have revealed the remnants of several 600-year-old Buddhist statues.
According to Saed News, citing Bitooteh, the dropping water levels of the Yangtze River in China have uncovered a sunken island in Chongqing and several 600-year-old Buddha statues.
China’s state media, Xinhua, reported that three historic Buddha statues were discovered at the highest point of a cliff on the island. Experts believe these statues were created during the Ming and Qing dynasties. One of the figures depicts a monk seated on a lotus-shaped pedestal.
The Yangtze River’s water level is rapidly declining due to drought and high temperatures in southwestern China.
Rainfall in the Yangtze River basin since July has been approximately 45% below average, and the heatwave is expected to persist across China at least until next week.
Drought Reveals Historical Treasures Across Europe
Several weeks of persistent drought in Europe have also exposed long-submerged historical relics. Recently, as water levels in the Danube River dropped amid an unprecedented heatwave, remains of several German World War II ships became visible. These vessels were part of the fleet scuttled by Nazi Germany along the Danube in 1944 while retreating from advancing Soviet forces.
