Nestled in Iran’s Sistan and Balouchestan Province, the region is home to several mesmerizing mud volcanoes.
Among them, the Tong mud domes in the village of Tong stand out. Comprised of three small mud hills resembling miniature volcanoes, they offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s geological wonders.
One of the domes remains active today, while the other two last erupted only a few years ago. Today, these mud volcanoes lie dormant—but their occasional eruptions are a spectacular sight. Each eruption lasts 10 to 15 minutes, sending tremors through the ground, creating the rumble of gunfire, and propelling mud skyward.
Most of Iran’s mud domes are located along the coastal plain of the Sea of Oman, particularly in South Balouchestan, where many remain active and continue to intrigue scientists and tourists alike.
