The Impact of Football on Reducing Blood Pressure

Human life is increasingly becoming more automated, sedentary, and lacking in physical activity, leading to numerous health problems, especially for the cardiovascular system. One of these issues is high blood pressure. Danish researchers have found that playing football can be as effective as medication in reducing blood pressure in women. Studies by researchers at the University of Southern Denmark have shown that one hour of football practice, two to three times a week, can lower blood pressure. Along with this benefit, football training also reduces body fat percentage and increases bone density. A study shows that playing football recreationally helps reduce blood pressure in women aged 35 to 50. This study, conducted in collaboration with researchers from the University of Exeter in the UK and three other countries, revealed that women aged 35 to 50 benefit significantly from playing football in terms of fitness and blood pressure reduction. Professor Peter Krastrop from the University of Exeter, who participated in the study, said, “Football exercise reduces high blood pressure, and the benefits of football are twice as much as the benefits of swimming over the same period.” He added, “This is the first study to demonstrate the benefits of football in combating high blood pressure.” The study showed that three one-hour football sessions per week over 15 weeks not only reduced blood pressure but also resulted in weight loss, with women losing an average of 2.3 kilograms.

Football also reduces body fat and strengthens bones. This is the first research to focus on the impact of football exercise on women's health. Studies have shown that playing football for one hour in women aged 35 to 50 leads to a relative decrease in blood pressure, and if these women play football two to three times a week for one year, they may not need blood pressure medication. The director of the research stated, "Our studies have shown that women who don’t exercise and have high blood pressure experience a significant reduction in blood pressure after football practice." Football can be as effective as medication in lowering blood pressure in women. Previous studies have also shown that playing football can help prevent certain diseases, such as heart disease. For football, individuals should engage in high-intensity and strength-based exercises. One of the researchers added, "We are currently working to reduce cardiovascular diseases and deaths caused by them. A quarter of deaths in Denmark are due to these types of diseases. High blood pressure is one of the dangerous risk factors."
