SAEDNEWS: A Tiny Dutch Home with a Green Roof That Welcomes Birds, Bats, and Native Plants, Blending Architecture Artfully with Nature
According to Family Magazine, SaedNews, the “Kazemat Kooningzog” project, a small holiday home, was designed and built by JCR Architecten in Arnhem, Netherlands. The building is cleverly camouflaged with natural vegetation to fully integrate into its surroundings, blending seamlessly with the land’s topography.
Sustainable Design That Supports Wildlife
One of the most innovative aspects of this design is its elevated structure, which transforms the roof into part of the ecosystem. Covered with natural plants, the roof has become a habitat for local wildlife.
A Multi-Functional Slanted Column
A uniquely slanted column pierces the green roof, serving not only as a structural element but also providing nesting spaces for birds and bats. This feature beautifully connects architecture with nature, embodying the concept of small-scale, eco-friendly living.
