SAEDNEWS: US President Donald Trump will welcome Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House on Thursday.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet in a bilateral Oval Office session, followed by a working lunch, at the White House. The leaders are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties, including trade, investment, and defense cooperation, as well as addressing pressing regional issues.
The meeting comes at a critical juncture in the Middle East, as instability continues to rise amid Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip. Despite increasing international calls for a political resolution to the Palestinian issue, the conflict shows no sign of abating.
“I believe our meeting with President Trump will contribute to ending wars and conflicts in our region within the framework of our shared vision of global peace and will further strengthen the cooperation between our countries,” Erdogan said in a prior statement.
Erdogan arrived in Washington, DC, on Wednesday after attending this year’s UN General Assembly session in New York. During his visit to New York, he participated in a reception hosted by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump honoring heads of state and their spouses.
Additionally, Erdogan and Trump attended a multilateral meeting on Gaza on the sidelines of the General Assembly on Tuesday, highlighting the ongoing international concern over the region’s security situation.
While in Washington, Erdogan is staying at Blair House, the U.S. president’s official guest residence, providing him with a central location from which to engage in diplomatic discussions.
