Justin Bieber Shared A Health Update With Fans By Posting A Video Of Himself Moving Both Sides Of His Face After He Suffered From Facial Paralysis Last Year

Last June, Justin Bieber revealed he’d been diagnosed with a viral infection that left one side of his face paralyzed.

In a video on Instagram, the 29-year-old said he’d been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome.

“As you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome,” he said in the clip.

He explained, “As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can't smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move, so there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.” Ramsay Hunt is caused by the varicella-zoster virus and is not contagious.

Because of the illness, Justin canceled the remaining dates on his Justice World Tour.

“For those who are frustrated by my cancellations of the next shows, I’m just physically, obviously not [capable] of doing them,” he said.

“This is pretty serious as you can see,” he added. “I wish this wasn’t the case but obviously my body is telling me I gotta slow down.”

He asked fans to understand, saying he was using the time to rest and get back to “100%” so he could return to performing, and requested prayers in his caption.

Fans and fellow celebrities flooded his post with support after he shared the news.

About a week later, his wife Hailey told Good Morning America that he was “feeling a lot better.”

“He’s doing really well,” she said. “He’s getting better every single day,” adding that it had been a scary, random event but expressing confidence he would be “totally OK.”

Justin himself later reassured fans on Instagram that he was improving day by day, sharing in a June 13 story that each day had “gotten better.”

“Through all of the discomfort I have found comfort in the one who designed me and knows me,” he wrote.

Now, nine months on, Justin shared another upbeat update.

This week he posted an Instagram Story showing his full face moving normally.

He captioned the clip “Wait for it...,” first looking around with a neutral expression and then breaking into a broad grin.

Fans were delighted to see him smiling and in high spirits again.

“He looks so much better and healthier happy for him,” one commenter wrote, while many others expressed joy and wished him continued recovery.
