SAEDNEWS: A clip of Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue — in which he highlights what former President Trump did not say about Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting — is going viral. Kimmel contrasts messages of unity from past presidents with what he calls Trump’s refusal to offer a unifying response, and the moment has ignited fresh debate online.

On Thursday night, Jimmy Kimmel opened Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a monologue covering the ever-worsening political divide in the United States, particularly in relation to the fatal shooting of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk earlier this week.

"We're still trying to wrap our heads around the senseless murder of the popular podcaster and conservative activist Charlie Kirk yesterday, whose death has amplified our anger, our differences," he said.

"And I've seen a lot of extraordinarily vile responses to this from both sides of the political spectrum," Kimmel continued, also mentioning the school shooting in Colorado that occurred the same day as Kirk's death.

"And with all these terrible things happening, you would think that our president would at least make an attempt to bring us together," he said. "But he didn't."

Kimmel then showed the online responses to the shooting by past US presidents, starting with Barack Obama.

Kimmel noted they all included messages of unity. "President Trump did not," he said. "Instead, he blamed Democrats for their rhetoric. The man who told a crowd of supporters that maybe the Second Amendment people should do something about Hillary Clinton."

"The man who said he wouldn't mind if someone shot through the fake news media. The man who unleashed a mob on the Capitol and said Liz Cheney should face nine barrels shooting at her for supporting his opponent, blames the radical left for their rhetoric," Kimmel concluded.
