The Effectiveness of Red Chili Peppers in Weight Loss

According to SAEDNEWS, When shopping for groceries, red chili peppers are probably the last thing on your mind, but it’s worth reconsidering. Researchers have found that a substance called capsaicin in red chili peppers, which gives them their heat, can help reduce appetite and increase the body’s calorie-burning rate.

What is capsaicin?

Capsaicin is a tasteless, colorless, and odorless substance that creates a sensation of heat in the body. In high concentrations, it can even cause skin burns. There are also creams containing capsaicin that are used to warm the skin and relieve pain.

The appropriate daily intake of capsaicin in the diet should be half a teaspoon, which is about one gram in its dry form. Researchers conducted a study involving 25 people, none of whom were overweight. Thirteen of them liked spicy food, while 12 did not. Those who did not like spicy food were given 0.3 grams of red chili powder to sprinkle on their meals, while the others consumed 1.8 grams. Ultimately, the researchers concluded that consuming red chili increases the core body temperature and boosts calorie burning.

Researchers also found that individuals who did not like or use red chili experienced a decrease in appetite—especially for sweet and fatty foods—after consuming it, while those who regularly consumed red chili showed no changes in their appetite.

The researchers stated that when people consume red chili regularly, over time its effects diminish and no longer impact them. Current studies are investigating how long red chili consumption remains effective for calorie burning or appetite reduction and what other changes should be made alongside it.

Consuming 6 grams of capsaicin per day suppresses appetite and reduces belly fat in both men and women. It can decrease calorie intake by up to 200 calories, which in turn boosts metabolism and helps manage your weight.

Capsule forms of red chili peppers are not as effective at reducing appetite as powdered chili sprinkled directly on food. The spicy taste and sensory effect of chili cause the body temperature to reach its maximum, increasing calorie burning and appetite suppression.

Adding red chili to your meals not only promotes weight loss but, when combined with exercise, leads to significant weight reduction—even if you have just recently started consuming it.
