Sausage strudel is one of the most delicious dishes you can make with sausage. If you’re a fan of the unique aroma and taste of sausage but are tired of the same old sandwiches, we recommend trying sausage strudel. In this post, we’ll guide you through the steps to make this tasty treat.
¼ cup olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
3 tablespoons yeast powder
1 egg
1 cup milk
3.5 cups flour
Sausages, as needed
Prepare the yeast mixture: Heat the milk until it boils, then let it cool to a lukewarm temperature. Add the yeast and mix well, then let it rest for 5 minutes. Add the sugar and mix again. Beat the egg with a fork until frothy and add it to the milk-yeast mixture.
Prepare the flour: Mix the flour and salt, then sift it three times to incorporate air and make it light. Place the flour in a deep bowl and create a well in the center. Pour the egg-milk mixture and olive oil into the center, then gradually mix and knead until you get a soft dough.
Let the dough rise: Place the dough in a bowl greased with butter or oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Prepare the filling: Mix the sausages with any other desired ingredients and sauté in oil until golden. Take pieces of dough and roll each into a rectangle slightly longer than the sausage. Place a sausage in the center, then cut the dough edges at equal intervals. Brush the top with egg yolk to give a golden finish after baking.
Bake: Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the strudels on it. Let them rest for 15 minutes. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 20–30 minutes, or until the tops are crisp and golden.
For extra flavor, brush the dough with a little ketchup in addition to the egg yolk.
Place a small dish of water in the oven alongside the strudels to prevent them from drying out.
Adding mozzarella or other melting cheeses can enhance the taste.
You can chop the sausages and sauté them with mushrooms, onions, or other vegetables before placing them in the dough.
