Four Dazzling Crowns of Farah Pahlavi and the Expensive Jewels She Matched with Each One / Needless Displays of Luxury That Squandered Iran’s Wealth

According to the historical section of Saed News, as you may know, Farah Pahlavi owned a vast collection of crowns and jewelry. After she and the Shah fled Iran, part of this collection was taken with them, while the remainder was left behind. The pieces that remained were placed in the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and put on public display. These jewels are so valuable that it's impossible to assign a monetary value to them, not only because of the precious stones but also due to their exquisite craftsmanship.

Farah Pahlavi's jewelry collection was not only materially valuable—it also consisted of masterpieces created by renowned Iranian and international artisans. Some were invaluable gifts better suited for museums than worn on the head, neck, or hands.

Below, you’ll find images and descriptions of some of these breathtaking jewels:

1. Turquoise Tiara, Necklace, and Earrings

This tiara was crafted from platinum and adorned with 17 large turquoise stones from Nishapur, along with cut diamonds.
The turquoise tiara appears in many famous portraits of Farah Pahlavi, often paired with dresses designed by Keyvan Khosravi.
Today, this stunning piece is held in the National Jewelry Museum of Iran.

2. Van Cleef & Arpels Crown

This crown was created after many consultations, using white gold and a cap made of green velvet—a color with significant meaning in Iranian culture.
It featured diamonds, pearls, rubies, and emeralds and weighed 1.489 kilograms.

The necklace was commissioned by the royal court from the same brand. Made of gold and platinum, it had a large, cut emerald at the center, surrounded by smaller emeralds and matching pearls.

3. Noor-ol-Ain Tiara

Among the royal women’s jewels, the Noor-ol-Ain tiara, made for Farah and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s wedding by order of the Shah, stands out. It is one of the most famous and valuable tiaras from the Pahlavi era.
Commissioned from Harry Winston in 1958, it features a 60-carat pink diamond known as Noor-ol-Ain. This precious diamond was originally brought to Iran from India by Iranian soldiers.

On her wedding night, Farah also wore a necklace, teardrop-shaped earrings, and a pear-shaped bracelet, all made of diamonds.

4. Seven-Emerald Tiara, Featuring Gems from the Era of Nader Shah

The Seven-Emerald Tiara is adorned with emeralds believed to have been brought to Iran during Nader Shah’s reign as spoils of war. It is one of the most beautiful tiaras in Iran’s National Jewelry Treasury.

After Farah and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s marriage, several new pieces were created using precious stones from the national treasury. The Seven-Emerald Tiara was among them.

It was designed by the American jeweler Harry Winston and was one of the most stunning tiaras worn by Farah Pahlavi.
