SAEDNEWS: The Pahlavi family inflicted so much cruelty on the people of Iran that the story of each member is marked by misery and depravity. After their exile, none of the Shah’s children or relatives were able to live normal lives.

What Drove Leila Pahlavi, the Heartbroken Daughter of the Shah, to Suicide?

According to the History Service of Saed News, citing Hamshahri, Leila Pahlavi was the third daughter of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the youngest child of him and Farah Pahlavi, born in Farvardin 1349 (April 1970). She was the youngest sister of Reza Pahlavi, Alireza Pahlavi, Farahnaz Pahlavi, and the half-sister of Shahnaz Pahlavi.

Following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Leila was forced to leave Iran with her family at the age of eight, living in exile. After completing her primary education, she pursued higher studies in the United States, graduating from Brown University with a degree in Comparative Literature, focusing on German language and Scandinavian philosophy.

Despite her academic achievements, Leila struggled with severe depression, chronic migraines, and muscular pain, which led her to withdraw from social life and avoid gatherings with friends. A failed romantic relationship was the final blow to her fragile mental health, and at the age of 31, she took her own life. Reports indicate her death was caused by an overdose of painkillers and psychiatric medication.

In 1988, Leila Pahlavi was laid to rest beside her grandmother’s grave in Paris.
