This relief, crafted with colored glazed bricks, portrays three soldiers of the Immortal Guard standing in precise order, each holding a spear. The Immortal Guard was recognized as the most distinguished and elite force of its time, holding a special place in the Achaemenid army. Their number was always exactly 10,000, a unique feature that earned them the name “Immortals.” Whenever a member of the group was lost for any reason, another soldier immediately replaced him, maintaining the full strength of 10,000.
