Prior to his appointment as Leader in 1989, Ayatollah Khamenei served two terms as President of Iran and represented the people in the Islamic Consultative Assembly. He was also appointed Friday Prayer Imam of Tehran by Imam Khomeini, a position of significant religious authority. Recognized as one of the most influential clerics in the Islamic Revolution, his roles have spanned both the political and spiritual spheres of the nation.
