SAEDNEWS: A prominent Iranian Shia cleric has declared that any individual or regime threatening the Islamic leadership and religious authority constitutes a “mohareb” — an enemy of God — amid escalating verbal attacks from the U.S. and Israeli officials.
According to Saed News, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, one of the most senior Shia religious authorities in Iran, has issued a powerful statement equating threats against the Islamic Republic’s leadership with religious warfare. In a formal religious ruling (fatwa), the ayatollah stated that any person or government that seeks to harm the Islamic ummah by targeting the Supreme Leader or senior clerics is considered a mohareb — a term rooted in Islamic jurisprudence referring to those who wage war against God.
The declaration followed recent remarks by U.S. President and Israeli leaders allegedly threatening Iran’s Supreme Leader and top clerics with assassination, prompting a group of Iranian believers to request religious guidance. In his response, Ayatollah Makarem emphasized that not only are such threats tantamount to armed rebellion in religious terms, but any form of support or cooperation with the perpetrators by Muslims or Islamic governments is strictly forbidden.
“All Muslims across the globe must rise in opposition and compel these enemies to repent their words and actions,” he asserted, adding that those who suffer in this path will be rewarded as holy warriors (mujahid fi sabil Allah).
The statement reflects the increasing religio-political entanglement in Iran’s foreign posture and signals a warning to regional allies and adversaries alike. It also underscores the theological significance the Iranian leadership assigns to challenges against its authority, elevating political rhetoric to a matter of divine confrontation.
