According to Saed News, Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, delivered a stark reassessment of Iran’s nuclear posture in an exclusive CBS interview, asserting that “Iran does not—and has never had—nuclear weapons.” His comments come amid mounting international concern over recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran’s enrichment facilities.
Grossi acknowledged that the attacks inflicted “serious damage” on key sites at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan—facilities vital for uranium conversion and enrichment. “Parts of these installations still stand,” he noted, “but make no mistake: this marks a significant setback in Iran’s capabilities.” Yet, he stressed, the country’s technical expertise remains intact.
Highlighting the urgency of restoring on‑site monitoring, Grossi revealed that the IAEA has repeatedly sought to resume inspections, even writing to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister to reauthorize access. He voiced concern over a recent parliamentary law in Tehran that could hinder agency cooperation but affirmed that, under the NPT, Iran must comply. “If inspectors are kept out,” he warned, “no one will truly know what’s happening inside.”
