SAEDNEWS: In a bold and potentially game-changing move, Iran’s Parliament has formally received a proposal to suspend all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), signaling a dramatic escalation in Tehran’s response to international pressure.

Iranian Parliament Moves to Suspend Cooperation with IAEA Amid Escalating Tensions

According to Saed News, citing ISNA, Rouhollah Motefakker Azad, a member of the Parliament’s Presidium, announced the formal submission of a bill aimed at halting Iran’s collaboration with the IAEA. The announcement was made during a live television interview on Monday, June 23, 2025.

Motefakker Azad stated that despite ongoing military conflict, Parliament has remained fully active and aligned with both the armed forces and the public’s expectations. “We have worked without interruption, holding key sessions both in committees and in the full assembly over the past two weeks,” he said. “Today’s session mirrored the gravity of confidence votes — with nearly full attendance and serious engagement by MPs.”

He highlighted that the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee had presented significant findings related to individuals collaborating with hostile foreign powers. Last week, Parliament passed a “double urgency” motion on the issue, and today, the general principles of the bill were unanimously approved, followed by article-by-article ratification of its nine provisions.

The bill reportedly targets individuals accused of espionage or collaboration with hostile entities such as Israel and other foreign adversaries. Government representatives present during the session supported the motion and the language of its various provisions.

Perhaps most notably, Motefakker Azad revealed that a separate and highly consequential proposal — the suspension of cooperation with the IAEA — had been formally registered and would now be reviewed by the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

“If approved by Parliament,” he declared, “Iran’s collaboration with the IAEA will be suspended due to the agency’s highly unprofessional conduct. This is a significant and revolutionary step.”

This move, if finalized, could deepen Iran’s isolation from the international nuclear regulatory system and increase fears of a further nuclear standoff. The IAEA has repeatedly urged transparency from Iran, especially in the wake of recent military tensions involving nuclear sites. Tehran’s threat to walk away from cooperation could severely limit global insight into the status of its nuclear program at a critical time.
