Saed News: Emphasizing the urgent need to assist the victims of the Shahid Rajaei Port incident, the President called on officials to, first and foremost, prioritize identifying and addressing the underlying causes and conditions that led to the incident over finding those to blame.
According to Saed News, this morning (Wednesday), during a cabinet meeting, President Masoud Pezeshkian once again extended his condolences and wished patience for the families of those who lost their lives in the Shahid Rajaei Port incident. He prayed for the deceased, expressed sympathy for the injured, and thanked the Ministers of Interior and Roads and Urban Development, the Governor of Hormozgan, the Armed Forces, the Red Crescent, and everyone who participated in relief efforts from the earliest hours following the incident, demonstrating solidarity and unity.
The President also expressed gratitude to all the countries that offered their sympathies to the Iranian government and people during this tragedy, and specifically thanked the Russian government for dispatching equipment and rescue personnel.
Pezeshkian then called on the relevant authorities to coordinate with insurance companies to assess and swiftly compensate for the damages so that those affected do not suffer further losses. He added that the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade should, in collaboration with all relevant agencies, accurately identify and record information about the vehicles damaged in the explosion within the port and take action to help cover their damages.
Emphasizing that identifying the root causes and contributing factors of the incident takes precedence over finding those responsible, the President stated: “If we focus on blaming someone, there will be more motivation for concealment. Therefore, we must first identify and resolve the flaws and underlying causes of this incident to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.” He stressed that all involved agencies must fully cooperate by providing accurate information to identify the causes and prevent recurrence.
The President also highlighted the critical issue of the massive backlog of containers at Shahid Rajaei Port, describing the situation as unacceptable. He instructed the head of the Administrative and Employment Affairs Organization to quickly conduct comparative studies on how ports and customs are managed in other countries, identify the most successful practices, and use that data to reform the structure, planning, and management of the nation’s ports and customs.
He noted that today, thanks to modern technologies and equipment, the entire import process—from purchasing at the origin, loading, transport, unloading, and customs clearance to distribution—can be fully monitored and tracked. Therefore, comparative studies should be conducted urgently to reform import and export procedures and reduce cargo delays at ports to near zero.
In conclusion, Pezeshkian once again urged all relevant officials to exert their utmost effort and care to ensure that damages are compensated as quickly as possible, so that the victims of this incident do not face further difficulties.
During the session, the Minister of Interior presented a detailed report on the Shahid Rajaei Port incident, including an analysis of structural, procedural, and managerial shortcomings in the administration of the country’s ports.
Additionally, a number of by-laws related to the Seventh Development Plan were approved during today’s meeting.
