Saed News: An American media outlet, in a report referring to the Saudi Defense Minister's visit to Iran, analyzed the issue.
According to the political desk of Saed News, Kayhan newspaper wrote: Bin Salman’s visit to Iran was “one of the highest-level visits by Saudi officials to Tehran in recent decades.” That’s according to CNN.
A source told CNN that the trip by the youngest son of Saudi King Salman to Iran aimed to improve diplomatic relations between the two countries and to show that Riyadh “can play a role in reducing tensions and mediating peace efforts.”
The American network did not mention the name or identity of the source in its report.
Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister, Khalid bin Salman, visited Tehran last week. During the trip, he met with the Supreme Leader of Iran and delivered a message from the Saudi King to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In the meeting, the Supreme Leader emphasized: “We believe that relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia will benefit both countries, and the two can complement each other.” He stressed that although the expansion of relations between the two countries has enemies, “we must overcome these hostile motives, and we are ready to do so.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also emphasized: “It is far better for regional brothers to cooperate and help each other than to rely on outsiders.”
In the meeting, the Saudi Defense Minister expressed great satisfaction, saying: “I have come to Tehran with the mission of expanding relations with Iran and cooperating in all areas, and we hope that the constructive dialogues held will result in a stronger relationship between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran than before.”
In CNN’s report, the unnamed source also referred to the indirect talks between Iran and the United States, mediated by Oman.
According to Fars News Agency, the source said, “The Saudis don’t know what Trump’s plan is regarding negotiations with Iran, and the assessment in Saudi Arabia is that the talks may be unpredictable and short-term.”
