Saed News: On Tuesday, the U.S. President held a meeting in the White House Situation Room regarding the ongoing negotiations over the nuclear deal with Iran.
According to the political affairs section of Saed News, quoting IRNA, the Axios website reported on Tuesday local time that sources said a high-level meeting was held with the participation of all senior national security and foreign policy officials in the Trump administration. The meeting focused on determining the U.S. position ahead of the next round of negotiations scheduled for Saturday.
Prior to the meeting, President Trump held a phone call with Haitham bin Tariq, the Sultan of Oman, during which they discussed Oman's mediation between the U.S. and Iran.
Oman's state news agency stated: "The two leaders discussed ways to support these negotiations to achieve desired outcomes."
Participants in Tuesday's Situation Room meeting included Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and other senior officials.
Axios wrote that the meeting took place amid serious debates within the U.S. government over the path forward in the negotiations and the compromises the U.S. should or should not make.
According to the report, Vance and Witkoff believe diplomacy could lead to a nuclear agreement and think the U.S. should be willing to make some compromises to achieve it. Other senior officials, including Rubio and Waltz, are much more skeptical and support a hardline approach to the talks.
Trump himself has sent mixed signals. He has said he wants a deal and believes the nuclear issue can be resolved through diplomacy, but he has also threatened Iran with military action.
The White House declined to comment on the meeting. Leavitt told reporters that “the maximum pressure campaign on Iran continues, but the President has made it clear that he wants to see dialogue and engagement with Iran,” while also stressing that “Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.”
