Iran Appreciates Pakistan for Vote against UNHRC Resolution

SAEDNEWS: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s support of Iran, particularly Islamabad’s stance and vote against an anti-Iran resolution at the UN Human Rights Council.

Iran Appreciates Pakistan for Vote against UNHRC Resolution

According to SAEDNEWS, In a telephone conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday, Araqchi thanked Pakistan for its support of Iran and its position at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

During the call, the two top diplomats exchanged views on ongoing regional and international developments.

Araqchi expressed his gratitude to Ishaq Dar for Pakistan’s strong support and stance at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, including its vote against an anti-Iran resolution.

He also conveyed his deep appreciation to the prime minister, the government, and the people of Pakistan for their support.

The UN Human Rights Council held a special session on January 23 to discuss what it called deteriorating human rights situation in Iran.

The council adopted a resolution that has extended the mandate of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran for two years, and the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran for one year. The resolution also called for an urgent investigation by the Fact-Finding Mission, in the context of what it called the repression of recent unrest in Iran.

The resolution was adopted by a vote of 25 in favor, 7 against and 14 abstentions.

Pakistan was one of the states that voted against the resolution along with China, Cuba, India, Indonesia, Iraq, and Vietnam.
