SAEDNEWS: Iranian Parliament spokesman Abbas Goudarzi revealed that lawmakers discussed the possibility of exiting the NPT but no decision has been made yet, stressing that any response to hostile actions will be firm, united, and deterrent.
According to Saed News, Abbas Goudarzi, spokesman of the Parliament’s Presidium, detailed the closed session of Parliament.
Goudarzi said: “Iran’s withdrawal from the NPT was reviewed in Parliament, and for now, no decision has been made in this regard. If withdrawal from the NPT is to take place, the Islamic Consultative Assembly will legislate in coordination with all pillars of the system, including the Supreme National Security Council.”
Speaking to reporters about today’s closed session, he explained: “Considering the conditions of the country, the region, and international developments, and with the commitment of the Speaker and MPs to play a strategic role in current relations, a closed session was held today for about an hour and a half.”
He added: “In this session, the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee presented a comprehensive report on the activation of the snapback mechanism and its potential impacts on the economy and other areas of the country. Several MPs also presented their views.”
Goudarzi stated: “The Speaker emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has a strong hand in this matter, and any reciprocal action deemed necessary by the system’s officials will be pursued without hesitation. Accordingly, intensive sessions will be held under the leadership of the National Security Committee with the presence of representatives to make strategic and reciprocal decisions.”
The spokesman noted: “The key point is that the activation of the snapback mechanism and ultimately the return of the six UN Security Council resolutions will not have a real or tangible impact on the country’s economic situation. Under those resolutions, about 120 individuals and entities would be sanctioned, whereas today more than 2,000 individuals and entities are already unilaterally sanctioned by the US. Therefore, conditions will not be worse than now, and the enemy’s main attempt is merely to create psychological pressure in society.”
He added: “This psychological pressure may lead to currency fluctuations and market volatility, but officials will certainly play their role in managing the situation, and people must also show cooperation. The essential point is that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be harmed in this regard.”
Goudarzi also stressed: “The enemies must know that Parliament, the Government, the Supreme National Security Council, and all the system’s institutions are united, cohesive, and aligned. Iran’s response to hostile actions will be reciprocal and deterrent.”
He said: “In the coming days, the Islamic Consultative Assembly will review all proposals and initiatives of the representatives under the leadership of the National Security Committee.”
In conclusion, the spokesman emphasized: “On this matter, both reformists and conservatives and all political currents in Parliament are unanimous that Iran’s response must be decisive, reciprocal, and punitive to impose costs on the enemy’s actions. All proposals will be reviewed in the planned sessions, and a final decision will be made.”
