Israel to Announce West Bank Sovereignty in the Coming Months

Israeli media reported that the issue of annexing the occupied West Bank and what the Israeli regime calls “imposing sovereignty” was discussed during a meeting between Israeli Foreign Minister Gadi Sa’ar and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

According to Saed News, citing Walla, Sa’ar informed Rubio that Israel will reach this point and is expected to announce it “in the coming months.” The report did not provide further details.

Walla noted that “Israel is interested in working quietly on this issue,” which is why official reports about the meeting did not mention sovereignty discussions; only topics such as Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran were officially acknowledged.

The report added that the Israeli Foreign Minister, alongside other officials, is currently preparing to present the plan to the U.S. government.

Within the Israeli cabinet, there is consensus on the desire and need to expand sovereignty over the West Bank. However, there is disagreement over whether the announcement should be a reaction to the intentions of various countries to recognize Palestine or an ideological move rather than a reactive step.

Israel, seeing what it considers a “political opportunity” due to Donald Trump’s presence in the White House, is accelerating the process of annexation and applying sovereignty over parts of the West Bank. Reports indicate that the focus is on specific areas that Tel Aviv may declare annexation over, justified as a “response” to global recognition of Palestine.

Earlier, Axios reported that this move by Israel is in response to Western countries such as the U.K., France, and Canada intending to recognize Palestine.
