SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard criticizes Azerbaijan and Armenia for allowing US and NATO influence in the Caucasus, likening their actions to Ukraine’s strategic errors under Zelensky, and warns of serious regional security consequences stemming from the Zangezur corridor agreement.

Azerbaijan and Armenia Risk Becoming Next Ukraine: Iran Warns Against US-NATO Influence in Caucasus

According to Saed News citing Fars News Agency, The Deputy Political Commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard wrote: If Aliyev and Pashinyan had reflected even briefly on the consequences of their decision to invite the United States, the United Kingdom, and NATO into the Caucasus region, they would never have fallen for the gambler Trump’s deception.

Aliyev and Pashinyan

Major General Yadollah Javani, the Deputy Political Commander of the Revolutionary Guard, in an article titled “Aliyev and Pashinyan on the Path to Zelensky’s Misery,” wrote: If Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, had given some thought to the consequences of their decision to bring the US, UK, and NATO into the Caucasus region, they would never have been deceived by the gambler Trump.

The article continues: The officials of these two countries, without regard to the realities of the Caucasus and the interests of other regional countries, naïvely undertook an adventurous and costly action for their nations under the influence of promises made by the US, the Zionist regime, and several European countries. These two have committed the same mistake previously made by Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine. The naïve Ukrainian president, under the illusion that joining NATO would secure a bright future for his country, led his nation onto a path of death and destruction.

If Zelensky had considered the fact that, according to Russia’s security doctrine, the borders of the former Soviet Union are considered red lines for security, he would never have dragged NATO into the Russian security boundaries and borders, thus exposing his country to a special military operation by the Russian army. Zelensky’s strategic mistake has so far inflicted heavy and irreparable costs on Ukraine and its people, and the future of this country remains uncertain in many respects, including its territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

It is surprising that Mr. Ilham Aliyev and Mr. Pashinyan not only did not learn a lesson from the Russia-Ukraine war and its causes but also committed the same mistake that could have similar consequences for themselves and their countries. Both Azerbaijan and Armenia are considered by Russia as part of its security borders, and accordingly, Russia will never tolerate the presence of the US and NATO in any form or title within these security boundaries.

However, the mistake of these two gentlemen is far greater than that of the Ukrainian president. Zelensky’s strategic error provoked only the Russians. But what the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia did at the White House, signing a contract to lease the Zangezur corridor exclusively to the Americans for 99 years, has put several important regional countries against them. Iran, Russia, China, and India all view the transfer of the Zangezur corridor to the US as a clear violation of their national interests, particularly their national security.

It is clear that these countries will not remain silent in the face of this harmful event for the countries and peoples of the region, and each will defend its interests and security in its own way. Statements by Dr. Velayati, Adviser on International Affairs to the Wise Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and the initial stance of the Russian Foreign Ministry indicate that the dream of American presence near Iran’s northern borders and within Russia’s security geography will never come true.

Dr. Velayati’s remarks sent a very clear message to the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia as well as to the United States. What Dr. Velayati stated aligns exactly with the explicit and firm positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which had previously announced opposition to any geopolitical changes along its northern borders and pledged to confront them with all its might.

In reaction to the leasing of the Zangezur corridor by Azerbaijan and Armenia to the US, Dr. Velayati told Tasnim News Agency in an exclusive interview: “Iran, with or without Russia, will prevent the establishment of the American corridor in the Caucasus because this corridor threatens regional security and alters the geopolitical map.”

In another part of his interview, Dr. Velayati said: “Is the Caucasus an ownerless region for Trump to lease? The Caucasus is one of the most sensitive geographic points in the world, and this passageway will not become Trump’s corridor but a graveyard for Trump’s mercenaries.”
