According to Saed News citing Farhikhtegan newspaper, on July 9th, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, dismissed Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister, from his position. Additionally, Putin signed another decree removing Bogdanov from his duties as Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and African countries.

The newspaper added that while some attempt to portray Russia as an ineffective partner in security discussions concerning Iran—and suggest that Russia should be completely excluded from Iran’s security relations—the removal of a figure who is possibly an Israeli liaison, along with Russia’s open support for Iran’s positions condemning attacks on nuclear sites, condemning aggression against Iran, and emphasizing the necessity of gaining Iran’s trust to prevent future attacks as a precondition for returning to negotiations, indicates that Russia, despite Bogdanov’s Jewish heritage and his role as Putin’s Middle East aide, politically aligns with Iran.
