SAEDNEWS: Iranian official Ali Bagheri Kani says Tehran achieved “active deterrence” in the recent 12-day conflict through national unity, warning that European “snapback” sanctions would be ineffective and self-damaging. He stressed Iran’s firm stance on the Zangezur corridor and voiced support for Hezbollah and Palestinian resistance.

According to Saed News, Ali Bagheri Kani, a member of the Strategic Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a special news interview that during the recent 12-day war, Iran achieved active deterrence — a success he credited to national unity.

According to Daneshjoo news agency, he also stressed the need to establish the reality of aggression against Iran as an unquestionable fact in international diplomacy, adding that deterrence was one of Iran’s key objectives in this war.

Bagheri Kani said: “After several days of fighting, the enemy came to the conclusion that it had to stop its aggression.”

He referred to the support of some Western countries for Israel and the United States during the recent conflict. He further noted that the power of currency in international relations remains a vital factor with significant effects on global politics.

Bagheri Kani also emphasized the importance of decisions made in the realm of foreign policy and national security, stating: “The foreign policy record of Ali Larijani is one of the valuable assets for the Supreme National Security Council. This experience can greatly contribute to improving the country’s defensive efficiency.”

Regarding the decision to establish a Supreme Defense Council, he said: “This decision can mean an enhancement of the country’s defense effectiveness and play a special role in greater strength and cohesion in the field of national security.”

Bagheri Kani, pointing to global crises such as the war in Ukraine and the situation in Gaza, stated: “Europeans have no role in these crises, and every decision they make is under U.S. control and permission.”

He went on to say: “The use of the snapback mechanism by Europeans as a tactic shows their helplessness and will be of no benefit to them.”

Bagheri Kani added: “Europe’s approach toward Iran is confrontational, and the use of snapback is a form of obstinacy. Moreover, Europeans do not have the ability to employ this tool.”

Referring to snapback sanctions, he said: “If Europeans activate the snapback, nothing significant will happen to Iran; it will only impose costs on Europe itself.”

He continued: “U.S. sanctions are far broader than snapback sanctions, and this mechanism will have no impact on sanctions against Iran.”

Bagheri Kani stressed: “Europe’s main goal in activating snapback is to extract concessions from Iran, not to impose new sanctions.”

On the issue of Zangezur, he said: “The Islamic Republic will not easily let go of the Zangezur matter, and the Russian Foreign Ministry has also taken a position on this. Other countries will not remain silent on the matter either.”

He added: “Hezbollah is an indigenous, popular movement in Lebanon, and the enemy’s goal of disarming it will be fruitless. Hezbollah was not created due to the rise of specific governments; it is a force that relies on the people.”

Bagheri Kani also addressed the situation in Gaza, saying: “Gaza has been destroyed, but the people and the resistance still stand firm. This situation is similar in Lebanon.”
