SAEDNEWS: The signatories of an open letter to Trump emphasized that the military offensive against Gaza has had serious consequences for Israel's international legitimacy.
Hundreds of former senior Israeli intelligence and military officials have written a letter to US President Donald Trump, urging him to intervene and pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately stop the war against the Gaza Strip.
The part of an open letter, first shared with the Jerusalem Post newspaper on Monday, was signed by more than 600 former officials, including ex-Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, ex-Shin Bet chief Ami Ayalon, and former military chief Matan Vilnai.
The signatories emphasized that the military offensive against Gaza has had serious consequences for Israel's international legitimacy, warning that the Netanyahu’s current approach of relying solely on a military solution and continuing the war only increases human casualties, deepens social divisions, and fuels global revulsion against Israel.
Stressing the need for a political solution, the group urged Trump to help end the war and return Israeli captives through negotiations with the support of a regional coalition, led by Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the Palestinian Authority.
The letter maintained that a clear ceasefire offer is vital to demonstrate that Israel has exhausted all options to bring its captives home.
The Gaza ceasefire talks resumed in Doha early last month, ahead of a meeting between Netanyahu and Trump at the White House, with Hamas and other resistance groups agreeing to the mediators' new proposal to stop the aggression on the Gaza Strip.
However, the talks were suspended after several weeks due to Israeli obstruction amid pressure from Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition.
