SAEDNEWS: Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran, stating that his country’s territory will never be used against Iran.
Iran and Pakistan have pledged to accelerate efforts toward achieving a $10 billion bilateral trade target, emphasizing the need to expand economic, scientific, and cultural ties as a foundation for lasting regional peace and security.
The commitment was made during a meeting in Islamabad on Sunday between high-level delegations of Iran and Pakistan, co-chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The talks were part of Pezeshkian’s official visit aimed at deepening cooperation between the neighboring countries.
Pezeshkian underlined Iran’s determination to reach the $10 billion trade goal, announcing that the two countries’ Joint Economic Commission would convene soon to finalize plans for enhancing economic collaboration.
“Peace and security will only become a reality when scientific, economic, cultural, and social relations between nations are fully materialized,” he said.
The president thanked Pakistani officials for their solidarity during Israel’s recent military offensive and stressed the importance of greater unity among Islamic countries. He also called for robust measures against terrorist groups operating in border regions, urging religious scholars to confront the ideological threats posed by such factions.
Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran, stating that his country’s territory will never be used against Iran.
He emphasized the need to swiftly implement the Iran-Pakistan economic roadmap, highlighting potential areas of cooperation in agriculture, textiles, food industries, and horticulture.
Sharif also expressed Pakistan’s readiness to develop joint border markets, establish a shared free trade zone, remove trade tariffs, resolve banking challenges, and expand barter trade mechanisms.
Referring to the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) – a bloc originally founded by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey – Sharif advocated for enhanced trilateral collaboration in rail connectivity, border security, and counter-terrorism efforts.
