Fruitless Support for Palestine

The recent plan by France and some European countries to recognize an independent Palestinian state, although it appears to be a positive move on the surface, is in practice devoid of practical value and may even lead to the continuation of Israel’s domination of more Palestinian lands.

This move is taking place in a situation where the Zionist regime, by systematically violating international law, exercises complete control over the West Bank and Gaza, making any formation of an independent Palestinian state practically impossible.

The following are the structural obstacles to the recognition of Palestinian statehood:

1- The U.S. veto power in the Security Council: Any application for membership by a new country in the United Nations requires the approval of the Security Council. Given the U.S.’s unconditional support for the Zionist regime, the country will definitely use its veto power to prevent Palestine from becoming a member.

2- Conditions imposed by Europe: By setting conditions such as disarming Hamas and surrendering it to the Mahmoud Abbas government, European countries have practically demanded the elimination of one of the main Palestinian resistance forces. This is while the Western-backed government does not truly represent the Palestinian people and lacks popular legitimacy.

3- If the international community, especially the European and Islamic countries, are genuinely concerned about resolving the Palestinian crisis, they should commit to these practical steps instead of symbolic measures.

An arms embargo on the Zionist regime: A complete cessation of arms sales to this regime is the first step to reducing its ability to suppress.

Suspension of political and economic relations: Countries should suspend their diplomatic and trade relations with this regime in order to increase the costs of human rights violations.

Support for popular resistance: Instead of disarming resistance groups, the natural right of the Palestinians to defend themselves within the framework of international law should be defended. Unfortunately, the recent move by France and its allies is more of political demagoguery than real pressure on the Zionist regime. History has shown that the regime has only backed down in the face of popular resistance and tangible economic pressure.

Until the international community takes serious measures such as sanctions, such plans will only serve as an excuse to justify their own inaction. The real solution is to abandon the dual policies and to support the rights of the Palestinians in practice, not to issue ineffective statements.
