SAEDNEWS: Farhan Haq said that the UN Secretary-General expressed hope that countries would leverage the results of the international conference on Palestine to achieve an attainable solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The deputy spokesperson for the United Nations announced that UN Secretary-General António Guterres views the broad level of support from countries for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as significant.
In an interview with IRNA, Farhan Haq addressed the recognition of an independent Palestinian state by some European and Western countries.
He said that the UN Secretary-General expressed the hope countries would leverage the results of the international conference on Palestine, held from July 28-30 at the UN headquarters, to achieve an attainable solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
When asked by the IRNA correspondent about the Secretary-General’s view on the developments, given the recognition of a Palestinian state by some European countries and the United States’ opposition, he said that from the perspective of Guterres, what is important is the extensive level of support from the participating countries in the conference, hosted by Saudi Arabia and France, for the two-state solution.
In a related development, Eloy Alfaro de Alba, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Panama to the UN, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council in August, told IRNA that Panama will examine the issue of recognizing an independent Palestinian state.
He termed the actions of some European countries in recognizing an independent Palestinian state as significant and effective, adding that the action is not symbolic.
