SAEDNEWS: Nechirvan Barzani hailed Iran’s “crucial” role in maintaining regional stability.
Nechirvan Barzani, President of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, has emphasized the importance of strengthening relations with Iran, saying closer cooperation would help enhance security across the region.
Barzani made the remarks during a meeting in Erbil on Tuesday with an Iranian delegation led by West Azarbaijan Governor Reza Rahmani.
“The Kurdistan Region attaches special importance to its ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran and seeks to expand bilateral relations in all fields,” Barzani said.
He said Iran plays a “crucial” role in maintaining regional stability, adding that “cordial relations between countries in the region will undoubtedly reinforce existing security.”
Rahmani also highlighted the active cooperation between Iran’s West Azarbaijan province and Iraq’s Erbil province, particularly in trade and border coordination. He noted that implementation of previously signed agreements would promote bilateral trade and ease cross-border exchanges.
The Iranian official also thanked Kurdish authorities for their cooperation in facilitating the pilgrimage of Arbaeen travelers to southern Iraq.
The meeting also included discussions on new proposals to enhance border trade.
