Pezeshkian: Continued Cooperation With the Agency Is Conditional on The Correction of Double Standards In Dealing With Iran

According to Saednews, Masoud Pezeshkian and António Costa, President of the European Council, held a phone conversation on Wednesday evening discussing the latest international developments, particularly the 12-day imposed war against Iran, as well as the outlook for relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union.

During the call, the President outlined the principled positions of the Iranian government on constructive interaction and effective dialogue with the world, emphasizing Tehran’s commitment to peace, stability, and regional and international security, especially in the new period.

Pezeshkian described the criminal actions of the Zionist regime and its destructive role in undermining global peace and security, stating: “Our country was targeted by aggression from the Zionist regime and the United States while it was pursuing dialogue and negotiation. When they were met with a decisive response from the Islamic Republic of Iran, they were forced to request a ceasefire. Undoubtedly, the Zionist regime could not have undertaken such action without coordination and permission from the United States.”

Responding to the European Council President’s concern about Iran’s suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the President reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect, and the frameworks of international law. He described the recent Iranian parliamentary resolution as a reaction to the biased and unprofessional behavior of the IAEA Director General.

Pezeshkian added: “The failure to maintain neutrality in reporting, overlooking the overt attack on our nuclear facilities, and silence in the face of violations of international laws are among the examples that cast doubt on the Agency’s position and credibility, which led to the passage of such legislation in the Iranian parliament. Naturally, one expectation of countries joining international bodies such as the IAEA is to receive balanced support and benefits from membership; otherwise, membership or non-membership in these institutions loses value and justification.”

The President also referred to the extensive and principled cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Agency over previous years, stating: “The continuation of this cooperation is conditional on correcting double standards regarding Iran’s nuclear dossier. Any repeated aggression will be met with a firmer and more regretful response.”

Pezeshkian, expressing appreciation for the European Council President’s efforts in strengthening diplomacy and constructive engagement, emphasized Iran’s readiness to expand relations and resolve bilateral issues with the European Union through respectful and constructive dialogue.

In this phone conversation, António Costa also pointed to the European Union’s desire to find diplomatic solutions to existing issues and to expand cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying: “I fully agree with you that international organizations must avoid any form of double standards. The European Union holds deep respect for the history, civilization, and culture of the Iranian nation and is fully prepared for dialogue and cooperation.”

The President of the European Council also offered sincere condolences for the martyrdom of a number of Iranian compatriots following recent attacks by the Zionist regime, stating: “The European Union condemns Israel’s human rights violations in Gaza and stresses the necessity of stopping the war, delivering humanitarian aid, and effectively supporting the Palestinian people.”
