SAEDNEWS: President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran is open to resuming nuclear negotiations, but stressed any dialogue requires guarantees to prevent further Israeli war crimes.
According to Saednews, Pezeshkian said Iran “sees no problem” with returning to the negotiating table, provided Israel is barred from carrying out more strikes during talks.
He made the remarks in an interview with American commentator Tucker Carlson released Monday.
“We have no problem with negotiation. But the atrocities Israel has committed in the region and against our country, and its war crimes…have caused a crisis,” the Iranian president stated.
He described Israel’s June 13 assault as a blatant, unprovoked act of aggression that killed high-ranking Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
On June 22, the United States expanded the hostilities by attacking three Iranian nuclear sites, violating the UN Charter and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The Israeli attacks occurred after five rounds of indirect talks mediated by Oman and just days before planned negotiations in Muscat on June 15.
Pezeshkian said Iran has never instigated war and does not wish conflict to continue. The president said that returning to the negotiating table has a prerequisite, which is based on a confidence-building attitude.
“From the day I assumed responsibility, my motto has been to foster unity at home and establish peace and tranquility with our neighbors and the world,” he added.
The Iranian president pointed to Israel’s misinformation campaign against Iran that goes back decades. He pointed out that the Israeli regime's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is falsely portraying Iran as seeking nuclear weapons and has sold this lie to every US president.
“We have never pursued nuclear weapons, are not pursuing them, and will never pursue them,” the Iranian president emphasized, insisting on a religious decree (fatwa) from Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Pezeshkian affirmed Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency but criticized the IAEA’s conduct for undermining mutual trust.
He underlined that any resolution must rest on respect for international law and the rights of sovereign nations.
“It is Netanyahu who has thrown the region into chaos and attempted to torpedo dialogue,” he said.
Pezeshkian insisted Iran seeks peace but retains the right to defend itself.
“We were attacked. Our nation has the ability to defend itself. The U.S. president has a choice: to move the region toward peace and security or drag it into forever wars.”
He revealed Israel tried to assassinate him during the 12-day aggression, describing how Israeli operatives targeted a meeting of senior Iranian officials using intelligence gathered by spies.
“We are ready to defend our people, our independence, and the freedom of our land to the last breath, and we are not afraid of death,” Pezeshkian said.
He condemned the Israeli regime’s “bloodletting, murder, looting, and evil illusions” as disgraceful acts that endanger the region and humanity.
