SAEDNEWS: Iran has announced plans for a national funeral ceremony in Tehran to honor senior military commanders killed in a recent Israeli airstrike, with thousands expected to attend in a show of national mourning and defiance.
According to Saed News,
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has released full details of funeral proceedings for several senior commanders killed in what Iranian officials describe as a “brutal and unprovoked Israeli assault.” The national ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, beginning at 8 a.m., and will proceed from the gates of the University of Tehran to Azadi Square.
Among those being honored are Lieutenant General Hossein Salami, the former commander-in-chief of the IRGC, and Brigadier General Masoud Shane’i, who served as his chief of staff. Their deaths mark one of the highest-profile Iranian casualties in the ongoing conflict.
A separate funeral service for both commanders will be held in their hometown of Golpayegan on Thursday, June 26, at 9 a.m., according to the IRGC’s public relations office.
The ceremony is expected to draw significant crowds, reflecting both the stature of the slain commanders and the heightened national sentiment in the wake of escalating hostilities with Israel. Officials have framed the event as not only a tribute to the fallen but also a symbol of Iranian resistance and unity in the face of foreign aggression.
The deaths of Salami and Shane’i have already sent ripples through Iranian political and military circles, with observers noting the symbolic weight of targeting such prominent figures. The Iranian government has vowed a “measured but firm” response, while continuing to emphasize national solidarity through public rituals of mourning.
