Saednews: The head of Jordan’s Atomic Energy Commission, following the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, considered the likelihood of the “Dimona” reactor in the occupied territories being targeted as high and offered recommendations to Jordanians for protection against radiation exposure.

Jordan's Intense Concern Over the Targeting of the "Dimona" Reactor

According to Saednews, quoting Rai al-Youm, “Khaled Touqan” spoke about the increased likelihood of an attack on the Dimona nuclear facilities in the occupied Palestinian territories following the early Sunday U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

He added: If Dimona is targeted, a contaminated radioactive cloud may form; however, its impact on Jordan will be limited, affecting the southern regions of the country, entering the desert, and not encompassing major cities and residential centers.

Touqan did not provide further details about the dangers arising from any problems at the Dimona reactor, but he had previously appeared on television warning that some areas in southern Jordan are only about 30 kilometers away from this reactor.

According to Rai al-Youm, this is the first time Touqan has disclosed the existence of specific plans to deal with the scenario of radiation leaks resulting from an attack on the Dimona reactor following the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities at dawn on Sunday.

He added: This preparedness involves the distribution of potassium iodide tablets, which are considered medical supplements and are used in radiation emergencies, especially during nuclear leaks or explosions.

For the first time, Touqan spoke about specialized teams tasked with cleaning soil and water from the effects of such a radioactive cloud if it forms, and the deployment of field teams.

Rai al-Youm noted that it has been unprecedented for Jordanian officials to speak about the dangers of nuclear radiation, but now someone like Touqan has warned for the second time within less than ten days in the media, which reflects the geographic challenges of the country amid the expanding war.

Rai al-Youm added: Jordan feels an increased sense of danger following the U.S. entry into the war and the targeting of Iran’s nuclear facilities early Sunday.

According to Saednews, on Friday, June 13th, with the start of the terrorist attack by the Zionist regime on Tehran and several Iranian cities, a number of military commanders, scientists, and civilians were martyred.

Meanwhile, the United States, early Sunday (June 22), joined Netanyahu’s war against Iran by striking three nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
