“Breathless and Bracing”: U.S. on Edge as Iran’s Retaliation Looms Within 48 Hours

According to Saed News, NBC News, citing two U.S. intelligence officials and a senior White House source, reported that the Trump administration is preparing for possible retaliatory action from Tehran. The aftermath of the recent American military strikes on Iran’s Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow nuclear sites has plunged Washington into a state of high alert. Officials have described the next 48 hours as “particularly alarming.”

In the early hours of Sunday morning, U.S. forces launched coordinated strikes on three of Iran’s key nuclear facilities, following a series of escalatory Israeli operations. The attack has drawn swift and widespread international condemnation, with legal experts warning of clear violations of the UN Charter, international law, and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement denouncing the assault as an “egregious and unprecedented crime” and vowed that the operation codenamed "True Promise 3"—which has already delivered 20 waves of retaliation against Israeli targets—will continue.

The IRGC warned that any further aggression would trigger counterstrikes “beyond the enemy’s calculations” and reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to impose a steep cost on aggressors.

With the Pentagon tightening security across its regional bases and allied forces on high alert, the U.S. homeland itself now finds its policymakers grappling with an unusually tangible fear: that Iran’s response might strike further, wider—and sooner—than expected.
