SaedNews: Marine archaeologists have discovered a 350-year-old treasure from the depths of the sea, which is incredibly fascinating and spectacular.
According to the history section of SaedNews, citing Young Journalists Club, in 1656, a valuable treasure consisting of jewels, gold, coins, crosses, and amulets sank in the waters of the Bahamas. However, recently, marine archaeologists were able to discover this treasure.
According to the newsbeeze website, the Maravillas ship (owner of this treasure) sank 45 miles (about 72,420 kilometers) off the western shores of the Bahamas, but its treasure was found kilometers away. Bahamian and American archaeologists and divers received permission from the Bahamian government to investigate the Maravillas ship and place any artifacts or treasures they discovered in the country's museum.
Among the treasures, archaeologists discovered a golden chain with numerous designs, indicating that this cargo likely belonged to very wealthy aristocrats, possibly from the higher classes.
They also found a necklace with a golden amulet of the Saint James Cross. This finding is related to the military-religious Order of Saint James, whose members protected pilgrims and participated in Spanish maritime trade.
Another similar piece with the Saint James Cross design was also found in the treasure, but this cross was set on a large oval green emerald surrounded by 12 smaller square emeralds.
On January 4, 1656, due to a navigation error, the ship went completely off course into shallower waters and struck an underwater rock. Only 45 out of the 650 people aboard managed to survive.
