Islamic: Iran’s Framework for Cooperation with the Agency is a Parliamentary Law

According to the political news service of Saed News, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of today’s Cabinet session, addressed questions regarding Iran’s relationship with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He stated: “Our engagement with the IAEA will be based on the law ratified by the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and the National Security Council will be the authority to determine the course of action based on reports from our organization.”

He added, “The IAEA must fulfill its legal duties and, so far, has not even condemned attacks on our nuclear facilities.”

Eslami also noted, “The agency has issued no declaration guaranteeing the protection of information related to Iran’s nuclear industry, asserting that it is committed to safeguarding these details. IAEA inspectors operate according to scheduled programs. For the two inspections approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Council Secretariat concerning Bushehr and the Tehran reactor, inspectors conducted their work and departed.”

Regarding agreements to construct several nuclear power plants in Iran in collaboration with Russia, Eslami said: “Since the 2000s, contracts between the Iranian and Russian governments have planned eight large-scale reactors, with four units providing 5,000 megawatts in Bushehr, while Iran was to later announce plans for the remaining four. We have now allocated the second set of four units in Hormozgan Province, and the memorandum of understanding emphasized rapid implementation. A preliminary contract has been signed and is being pursued.”

On consultations about discussions with the IAEA, he added: “We do not engage in negotiations with the agency; rather, it has regulations and standards that it must follow, and we are committed to compliance. Recent events in the country and the IAEA Director General’s role led to the passage of a new law by Parliament, which is binding. Implementing this law requires specific actions by the agency. The IAEA must respond so that we can take subsequent steps. The agency should condemn U.S. and Israeli attacks on our peaceful nuclear facilities and certify the protection of Iran’s nuclear documents and records.”

Eslami also announced the imminent opening of a radiation center in Ardabil Province, stating: “The launch of this center will resolve one of the country’s challenges in preserving agricultural products. This step marks progress in expanding our 12 designated regions, a promise we had made previously.”
