Trump Announces Second US Strike on Venezuela: Tensions Escalate

Former President Donald Trump announced that a recent US airstrike killed three Venezuelan men he labeled as “confirmed narcoterrorists,” doubling down on his pledge to continue targeting suspected drug traffickers.

BE WARNED — IF YOU ARE TRANSPORTING DRUGS THAT CAN KILL AMERICANS, WE ARE HUNTING YOU!” Trump wrote on social media, sharing a video of the vessel engulfed in flames following the strike.

Trump told reporters the administration has evidence the targeted boat was en route to the US carrying illegal drugs. He also suggested that similar measures could be taken against cartels smuggling drugs over land.

“When they come by land, we’re going to be stopping them the same way we stopped the boats,” he said.

This is the second US strike on a suspected drug trafficking vessel this month. Earlier in May, an attack on a boat leaving Venezuela raised legal questions among lawmakers from both parties. Democrats urged the White House to provide a clear legal justification, while officials maintained the strikes comply with laws governing “armed conflict.”

The strikes highlight the administration’s aggressive stance on drug trafficking and its willingness to take bold, controversial measures to curb the flow of narcotics into the US.
