SAEDNEWS: The foreign minister of Tunisia expressed his country’s support for Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, lauding Tehran’s responsible interaction with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
In a high-level meeting in Tunis on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Tunisian counterpart Mohamed Ali Nafti reviewed bilateral relations and discussed strategies to deepen cooperation across economic, trade, tourism, scientific, medical, and cultural sectors.
Both ministers emphasized the significance of establishing direct flights between Iran and Tunisia and agreed to convene a joint economic commission in Tehran in the near future to further expand collaboration.
Regional developments were also a key topic of discussion. Araqchi and Nafti voiced strong condemnation of ongoing Israeli violence in Gaza, including recent military attacks on Qatar, calling for immediate and effective measures to stop the humanitarian crisis. They stressed the urgent need to ensure access to aid in Gaza and to hold Israeli perpetrators accountable for their actions.
On the nuclear front, Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s opposition to illegal strikes on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, asserting that such attacks violate Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He highlighted that Iran, along with other members of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), is entitled to pursue peaceful nuclear technology. Nafti also praised Iran’s responsible cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and stressed the importance of continuing constructive diplomacy.
This meeting signals a growing alignment between Tehran and Tunis as they seek to strengthen bilateral ties, support nuclear rights under international law, and address pressing regional humanitarian challenges.
