Velayati: “Palestine, the Axis of Islamic Unity” – Urgent Action Needed to End Israeli Crimes

At a meeting of the Supreme Council of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening in Tehran on Tuesday, September 9, Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati delivered a powerful statement titled “Palestine, the Axis of Islamic Unity”, condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza as a systematic campaign of total war against humanity and civilization.

Velayati detailed what he described as a planned and gradual genocide, pointing to the blockade of Gaza, cutting off water, electricity, medicine, and food, as well as the bombing of hospitals, schools, mosques, and UN shelters. He called the destruction of vital infrastructure and homes a form of ethnic cleansing disguised as military operations, in blatant violation of human rights and international law.

Highlighting the severity of the atrocities, Velayati accused the Zionist regime, backed by Western support, of burying children alive, targeting pregnant women, eliminating Palestinian elites, and destroying essential infrastructure, calling these acts a crime against humanity.

Emphasizing that condemnation alone is insufficient, Velayati urged immediate practical measures:

  • Reopening humanitarian passages to Gaza and lifting the blockade to provide access to basic needs.

  • Establishing a special international tribunal to try Israeli war criminals and imposing comprehensive economic, political, and military sanctions.

  • Ensuring unbiased media coverage and uncensored reporting by human rights organizations, with prompt action by the International Criminal Court.

  • Full cessation of cooperation by Islamic nations and the international community with Israel, while supporting the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian people.

Velayati stressed that until the complete cessation of Israeli crimes and the return of Palestinian refugees, the world’s awakened consciences must stand with Gaza. He warned that silence today will only fuel a greater catastrophe tomorrow.

This statement calls on the global community to move beyond words and take swift, tangible action to end what Velayati describes as one of the gravest crises of our time.
