SAEDNEWS: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian hailed the cultural and historical bonds between Iran and Tajikistan as a solid foundation for enhanced cooperation, expressing confidence that bilateral ties will continue to expand in line with mutual interests.
In a message to President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on Monday, Pezeshkian offered his congratulations to the Tajik leader on the anniversary of the Central Asian country’s independence from the Soviet Union that collapsed in late 1991.
The Iranian president described the brotherly, cultural, and historical relations between the two nations as a valuable asset for promoting broader cooperation in various fields.
He stressed that with the shared determination of both governments, Tehran and Dushanbe will be able to deepen and develop their friendly relations and witness further growth in bilateral engagement serving the common interests of the two countries.
After independence, Tajikistan suffered from a devastating civil war which lasted from 1992 to 1997. Since the end of the war, newly established political stability and foreign aid have allowed the country's economy to grow.
Iran was the first nation to establish an embassy in Dushanbe. It was also one of the first countries to extend diplomatic recognition of the newly independent Tajikistan in 1991.
