Born in Swindon, England in 1944, Davies’ passion for music began early. As a boy, he was inspired by Gene Krupa’s “Drummin’ Man,” which ignited a lifelong love for jazz, blues, and rock. That passion led to the creation of Supertramp in 1969, a band that would go on to redefine progressive rock in the 1970s and 1980s.
Alongside co-writer Roger Hodgson, Davies helped pen some of the group’s most memorable hits. His distinctive voice and unmistakable touch on the Wurlitzer piano powered classics like “Goodbye Stranger” and “Bloody Well Right.” These songs, infused with wit, depth, and a unique musical texture, became staples of classic rock radio and remain beloved to this day.
