Pezeshkian Terms Countering Unilateralism and Developing Multilateralism as key SCO Summit Achievements

President Masoud Pezeshkian has described countering unilateralism and efforts to develop multilateralism as important achievements made during Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

Speaking to reporters en route to Beijing, Pezeshkian said the SCO is a good opportunity to meet with the heads of member states as well as members of the SCO Plus.

“We also held constructive talks with the heads of participating countries on the sidelines of these two summits,” he added.

These dialogues resulted in good coordination for creating interaction between countries, he stated.

Objecting to unilateralism and making efforts to develop multilateralism were among the important actions pursued and carried out at this summit, Pezeshkian said.

He noted that the global governance must be based on justice and fairness, the restoration of rights, and the recognition of the sovereignty of all countries.

“The meeting held on the sidelines of the SCO Summit will lead to the development of interactions in areas of mutual cooperation between countries, and we will try to operationalize these agreements.”

“We will try and negotiate for suitable development in Iran rail routes because it is both cheaper and creates less pollution for the environment,” he added

Developing the country's rail transportation will bring about very suitable achievements, including significantly reducing the traffic load on roads.

Pezeshkian on Monday attended the SCO summit in China’s Tianjin city.

On the sidelines of the summit, he held separate meetings with UN Chief Antonio Guterres, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and presidents of Russia, Turkey, and Tajikistan.
