Thousands of protesters gathered in New York City and Toronto on Saturday, demanding an end to the starvation campaign by the Israeli regime in the Gaza Strip. The demonstrations in both cities focused on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the besieged territory, with participants holding signs calling for an immediate end to the imposed hunger against Palestinians there.

The rally in New York, the US, was organized by a coalition of groups, including the ANSWER Coalition and Code Pink, which took place outside the New York Public Library. The protest marked one of the largest demonstrations in the US specifically addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with reports indicating that several thousand turned out, many traveling from other cities by bus.

Protesters included journalists advocating for their colleagues in Gaza, where reports from international aid organizations highlight a worsening famine. According to the United Nations’ Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), Gaza is experiencing its worst food crisis, with UNRWA reporting that nearly one in five young children suffering from malnutrition. Since October 2023, over 100 children have died due to malnutrition-related issues.

The protests also attracted diverse groups, including Jewish-led organizations like “Jewish Voice for Peace” and “If Not Now,” who chanted slogans against the ongoing conflict.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) praised the turnout, emphasizing public opposition to the Gaza genocide.

In Toronto, Canada, the protesters also voiced support for the Palestinian people and journalists. The rally there came after Israel killed several journalists, including Al Jazeera reporters, in a targeted attack on their tent in Gaza City last weekend.
